Missing Blackpool?

22nd May 2020

Like all dance lovers around the globe, we can’t believe we’re not in Blackpool at the moment! To combat the seasonal withdrawal symptoms and provide a much needed uplift in these days of gloom, DSI TV will be sharing a daily YouTube compilation, showcasing clips of that day’s specific events interspersed with recordings of dancing greats and other contributors to this wonderful festival.

We hope these daily episodes will inspire you to look forward to the postponed festival later this year. Michael Williams, the Managing Director of Blackpool Entertainment, says: “Blackpool is synonymous with Ballroom dancing and the festivals are so important for Blackpool. There is so much tradition with the festivals and we will continue to respect those traditions.”

“We had no option but to reschedule the festivals. Our main considerations were particularly related to the concerns brought about by mass gatherings and the strain on the medical and emergency services, as well as movement and travel restrictions both within the UK and around the world.

“We appreciate that the rescheduled dates from 25th August to the 4th September may not be convenient for everyone with travel restrictions being introduced around the world but, as always, we felt ‘the show must go on’. Blackpool’s ‘special ingredients’ will all be present including Mr Marcus Hilton MBE as Chair of Adjudicators, the amazing music from the Empress Orchestra under the musical direction of Ashley Frohlick and, of course, the atmosphere of the magnificent of Empress Ballroom.

“I would like to thank all those who love the Blackpool festivals for their understanding of these unique and unquestionably challenging circumstances. It is your passion for the festivals that has shaped our event over the years, and will continue to do so, and we look forward to preparing fantastic festivals for 2021.”
